It treats them in a way that I think is reasonably informed. Flipped through the book and donated it to a thrift shop. Tom Franklin is an American treasure; a writer of weight and atmosphere and poetry that reminds us why the US South became a comfortable playground for Faulkner, James Dickey, and, more recently, James Lee Burke. French Huguenots, Scottish Presbyterians and Swiss missionaries. If you want a great deal of intricate action and plot and aren't concerned by depth, then fine, you might enjoy Tangled Webs. I read this as a child and again recently as a father. I can't stand stories that give me these deep, complex characters and then chuck it all out the window by the end of the first book. But as they begin to investigate this case, there is another spirit present.
