I was moved by the story of the two unusual characters. Some of the language and adult situations are not for young readers, but many of the situations are handled in a fairy tale way with a happy ending for all smack, not that I or readers need blood and guts and horror, but with such serious subjects, one should at least have a slight feeling of dread. But Mariah believes that the key to her father's death is tied to another question: Where is the missing parchment. (It's hard to believe I was ever that juvenile. I have already read the book twice and I think I will continue to go back to it to glean more pearls of wisdom. And then there was the central love story that connected it all. Schultheis describes the need for some journalists and other observers to "be there, Inside," something most of us cannot even begin to understand. I read it on the cloud reader, and so I did not experience the issues with small print that others encountered. Love this book though :).
